March and April shows!

Greetings dear friends and supporters of my music.

2010 has started off to be a great year. Many wonderful things are happening and it's tough to keep it all straight! Hearing the Portland Symphony perform one of my songs with Storm Large last month right alongside Nat King Cole, Elvis Costello and Cole Porter continues to blow my mind on a daily basis...Thank you Storm and James. After the show I met Greg Eklund who played drums with the Symphony that night. Greg was in a well-known band called Everclear for many years and will be performing with us in April for our Last Dancers shows in L.A. We are very excited to play with Greg.

Special Request: I sent out a free download of my entire first album "Gracious Living" with my last email and am anxious to hear your reviews! Please leave a comment on my website!

The New Band

The first rough mixes of the album Anna Sacks and I are working on are already sounding AMAZING. In particular "When You're a Dreamer". We have a great version of this song in the works as well as 10+ other songs. We are blessed many times over to have musicians like Kelly Le Mieux (Goldfinger) on Bass, Pat Bohan on guitars and Dano Capristo playing drums and mixing/producing. We will have many special guest artists from the West Coast such as David Graham, James Beaton and Eric McFadden making appearances on the record and will keep everyone posted as soon as we have some singles to advance through our websites, so keep your ears peeled. (I think that's a widwest corn reference...) Anna and I are in the process of naming our band and will gladly accept your ideas. Please send them to adam.mackintosh@gmail.com

Portland Symphony performs "Forbidden Fruit" news!

Hello dear friends and supporters of my music. Just a quick note to let everyone know that the Portland Symphony performance with Storm Large was an absolutely divine experience. Over 3000 people filled the sold-out Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in downtown Portland to hear Storm sing with a 64 piece orchestra and they gave her 2 standing ovations. I was very honored to have had one of my compositions performed in the midst of such greatness as Cole Porter, Elvis Costello and many more. The arranger was Steven Taylor who is the head of the music department at Champaign-Urbana university in Illinois, and we had a great laugh afterwards talking about his inspirations for the arrangement. Really sweet guy. The Symphony board has voted to allow us access to the archival recording and at some point it might be available to hear the recording! Here are a couple of pics:

More great news! Anna and I have started recording our album! Tracked 6 songs in Portland over the weekend with Dano Capristo and will be joined by many of our talented friends as we record into the summer. Tracks will be available on both of our sites and I will keep you updated as we work. www.annasacksmusic.com

The Last Dancers will be playing at The Stronghold on Abbot Kinney Blvd. here in Venice March 11th at
9:00 pm with the lovely and talented Shannon Moore who is backed up by many members of Jackson Browne's band. We are also very happy to be playing the show with Greg Ecklund from Everclear on drums. Will be a great show!

And...I have been asked to host a Songwriter night this Sunday at a new Venice Venue called Witzend
Very exciting! As you all know I love hosting and really wanted to find a venue to work with here in my neighborhood. Cool space too, used to be the 4H club where The Doors and many other legendary acts performed in the 60's and 70's. Currently, Lynda Kay, Scott Clark and Shannon Moore are on the bill as well as several other incredible performers who I have yet to discover links to. We performed there twice this month and had an excellent time. Any songwriters in LA who would like to come and do 3 songs, get back to me right away as I have one slot left!

Current dates for Wisconsin this Spring:
Aug 20th at Woodwalk Gallery
June 10 * 11 * 12 * 13 Steel Bridge Songfest
July 26 Ephraim waterfront (evenings in Ephraim concert series)
July 24th on the deck at Husby's 7 till 10
More to come....

All of this and more will be copied to my blog which you can visit here BLOG
Take care and best wishes to you all! See you out. -AM

Hello 2010!

Jan 29 2010

Hello dear friends, fans and supporters of my music. Today I have some great news. Nearly a decade has passed since I wrote "Forbidden Fruit", a sultry, haunting ballad that came to me all at once in what is now the back hallway entrance to Dante's. The piece was performed many times at Dante's by Storm Large on her ascent to stardom. She would often open one of her sets with the song and for such a gritty rock club, the silence was always surprising. Several years passed and the melodies and twisted chords slept softly in our hearts. Without a recorded version of the composition it was survived only by our collective consciousness. A couple of months ago, Storm's chief collaborator, musical director and brilliant musican, James Beaton called and requested the exact lyrics in the hopes of working the song into their Valentine's Day performance. The next time I heard from him was an email stating that the song would be performed by Storm, backed by the full sonic spectrum of the Oregon Symphony at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert hall in Portland. I am simply blown away, grateful, humbled, excited and honored to receive such a beautiful gift. The concert details are below and if you would like to see something rare and beautiful, get tickets right away. The PCPA opens sales to their members first and then to the general public and ticket sales are going quickly for this romantic, funny and highly entertaining performance. Storm is a brilliantly funny entertainer and with the Symphony backing her up...it will be a great show. Not to be missed. Thank you Storm and James.
P.S. there is an absolutely hilarious video for "8 Miles Wide" on her site so click the link.
